Digital Asset Management Links — July 15, 2016
Short DAM Links post today as I am out of the office following a great visit to Chicago. I attended a Widen Workshop all day and a DAMster meetup in the evening. The meetup was hosted by Mary Yurkovic and featured a panel of digital asset managers from the midwest. If you are in the Chicago area and interested in DAM, join the Midwest Digital Asset Managers meetup group to find out about upcoming events.
Congratulations to Carla Hayden, the new Librarian of Congress! Hayden is making news as the first woman and first person of color to be named Librarian of Congress. Since we’re all about inclusion and diversity here at digitalassetmanagement.com, it’s worth noting that her nomination and Senate confirmation did not go without controversy. She has widely been criticized by (you guessed it) white men for not being qualified, despite having a PhD in library science from the prestigious University of Chicago, serving as president of the American Library Association, and being the CEO of Baltimore’s Enoch Pratt Free Library. She will step into the role following the resignation of James Billington, who according to the New York Times “presided over a series of management and technology failures at the library,” in particular his inability to digitize the vast resources of the library. – PBS Newshour
